Description

A glimpse of the rich New Zealand bird life embedded within these beautiful soaps. They are an ideal gift for that special person. The beautiful paintings within the soaps are the creation of Desiree McLaggan, who lives in rural Gordonton, in the North Waikato Region of New Zealand. All these soaps contain Moringa Oil, a valuable additive for you skin.  Moringa is well known for its soothing and healing properties for the skin. The fragrance is the delightful scent of an Old English Garden and is infused into the whole soap.

The magic of these soaps is that the picture stays in the soap for the lifetime of the soap. If they get a little dull when the soap is dry, rinse under water and the picture pops back as clear and bright as the day you unwrapped it.

These soaps make a wonderful gift for friends overseas, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, and Christmas.

These soaps are made in New Zealand using local and imported Ingredients and crafted by Moringa Meadows Homestead based in Pukekawa, New Zealand.

The Fantail

The fantail is a very adaptable bird and is happy living where humans live. Originally found in native forests and scrub, it is now also in orchards and in gardens. It can be found in areas from sea level to the snow line. They have a diet of a wide range of small insects.

They have a lot of enemies including cats, rats, stoats and mynas. For this reason, although they produce a lot of eggs, only a few survive and grow up.

The Fantail is quick and agile and can quickly change direction when out hunting for insects.  They mainly seek the food amongst ferns and the undersides of leaves. They seldom search for food on the ground.

They are very cunning in the search for food.  The fast movement of the wings will often flush out insects resting of leaves. They will often follow another animal who disturbs the foliage and soil as they move,  and the Fantail catches the disturbed insects.

In Māori mythology, the fantail was responsible for the presence of death in the world. Maui, thinking he could eradicate death by successfully passing through the goddess of death, Hine-nui-te-po, tried to enter the goddess’s sleeping body through the pathway of birth. The fantail, warned by Maui to be quiet, began laughing and woke Hine-nuite-po, who was so angry that she promptly killed Maui. (Extract from Department of Conservation, NZ)
