Description

A glimpse of the rich New Zealand bird life embedded within these beautiful soaps. They are an ideal gift for that special person. The beautiful paintings within the soaps are the creation of Desiree McLaggan, who lives in rural Gordonton, in the North Waikato Region of New Zealand. All these soaps contain Moringa Oil, a valuable additive for you skin.  Moringa is well known for its soothing and healing properties for the skin. The fragrance is the delightful scent of an Old English Garden and is infused into the whole soap.

The magic of these soaps is that the picture stays in the soap for the lifetime of the soap. If they get a little dull when the soap is dry, rinse under water and the picture pops back as clear and bright as the day you unwrapped it.

These soaps make a wonderful gift for friends overseas, Mother’s Day, Birthdays, and Christmas.

These soaps are made in New Zealand using local and imported Ingredients and crafted by Moringa Meadows Homestead based in Pukekawa, New Zealand.

The Tūī

The Tūī Is found only in New Zealand, on the three main islands of New Zealand. They live in native forests, bush reserves, and bush remnants. The only threatened subspecies of the Tūī  is the Chatham Island Tūī. They are Belong to the honey Eating family of birds and feed mainly of the nectar from native flowers. They are very clever mimics, and can mimic the sounds of the Bell or and sometimes even the ring tones of phones.  They are often heard singing wonderful chirping melodies interspersed with grunts and chortles.  It is a medium-sized bird native to New Zealand. It is blue, green, and bronze coloured with a distinctive white throat tuft under the throat and noisy wings.

They pollinate of many native trees and over a large distance. This is especially in the winter when they are looking for their favourite food to eat. The food of choice is the nectar from the flowers of native plants such as kōwhai, puriri, rewarewa, kahikatea, pohutukawa, rātā and flax. They will also occasionally eat insects too.

They lay their eggs are laid from September to January. The nest is built by the female, from twigs and sticks, lined with fine grasses, high in the canopy or subcanopy. The clutch of eggs is between 2-4 white or pale pink eggs, marked with reddish-brown spots and blotches. Incubation and brooding is by the female only. Chicks are initially fed only by the female, but later the male helps to feed them.

They are very protective of their living space, and have been known to defend themselves against magpies and even ‘mob’ harriers and falcons. The tūī  has also had sustained losses due to introduced predators: possums, feral cats, rats, stoats, and the destruction of habitat.

Effective predator control has resulted in a dramatic increase in the delightful presence of Tūī numbers.
